[atrb=width,240] it was embarrassing to admit it, but lucas had never, ever been so happy to be in the mall alone before in his life. since cleaning himself up after the death of his girlfriend and baby mama, he spent pretty much all of his time trying to make his little girl cassidy the happiest little girl alive. he constantly played games with her, listened to music with her, painted, taught her how to play pattycake and all the different things that a mother typically did with her child. he almost never had a spare moment to himself and even when he left cassidy with his good friend peyton, he couldn't really enjoy his time out because he was worried about coming home smelling like alcohol or too drunk to make sense of what was happening and he couldn't bare to think of keeping peyton away from her own place for an entire night. when he woke up, he immediately checked on cassie. during the day, all he did was pay attention to cassie and cassie's needs. at night, he read until cassie fell asleep and when he finally went to bed, he went to bed thinking about cassie. he knew that having a child was going to be a handful the moment ella had told him she was pregnant - he knew it was going to be hard. but he never counted on going through the entire thing alone and that very fact made it a bit overwhelming for him. he couldn't even work - ella's parents were kind enough to pay for a lot of what cassie needed and his own parents helped to pay rent for him and his brother. so when cassidy's grandparents offered to take her for a few days (no doubt to spoil her rotten) luke hadn't even hesitated in saying it was okay. he loved his little girl - honestly, he loved her more than anything else in the world. but she took up so much time that he couldn't even go shopping without her, and he had to admit that going shopping for himself with a two year old on his hip at all times wasn't exactly easy. so these days he was spending alone, he promised himself he wasn't going to worry too much about his baby girl. this was going to be his "me-time", the chance he took to actually buy new clothes, meet new girls, hang out with old friends. opportunities like this hadn't come along for him in a long while, so when he walked into the mall without the feeling of a two year old tugging on his hand or shirt, he had never felt so relieved. he didn't have to worry about her running off or people kidnapping her or the snide remarks people would make when they saw him and his little blond angel. he could just focus on himself - on the clothes he needed, the things he could buy her, the food he could eat, the beer he could go out and drink later. it was a nice feeling. he now finally understood why his parents celebrated so much when he was old enough to take care of himself. he wasn't planning anything too exciting at the moment. he was just shopping. cassie had a habit of going and staining all of his clothes, so he dropped by a few clothing stores to pick up some shirts and much-needed jeans, feeling relieved when he could go and try on pants without having to worry about what to do with his baby. then he wandered around for a while - he stalked through zumiez, browsed through EB games and f.y.e., and even made a pit stop at spencer's to say hi to a few old friends and laugh at some of the stuff they had for sale. he took his time, acting very out of character for the typical guy at the mall, but he really wanted to savor his time alone. never having the opportunity to go without someone really made you love the moments when you could be alone, no matter how much you loved the other person. eventually, he felt his stomach start to growl and he made his way toward the food court section of the mall to pick himself up something to nibble on. nothing special - just a pretzel with mustard to dip it in and a large dr. pepper. however as he was handed his delectable treat, he thought that he had never smelled something so delicious in all of his life. food - it was his one true love. he made his way to an empty table not far from the pretzel place and sat down, enjoying his food as he glanced around the mall. it felt good to be able to do what he wanted. it felt really good. | [atrb=width,140] words , 815 words tagged , stellllllla! notes , not the manliest of templates for him, though i suppose by this point luke isn't really worried much about what makes him look manly. |
